The ultimate old school wedding guestbook

Since we began hosting weddings at Old Forest School, one unique feature has truly captured the hearts of our guests: the original schoolhouse blackboard. This charming relic has become a beloved way for guests to leave messages of love, joy, and support for couples on their wedding day. The blackboard isn’t just an old school artifact—it’s a canvas for creativity, memories, and heartfelt sentiments that each guest can contribute to, making it one of the most personal and interactive elements at our venue.

For many, writing on a blackboard with chalk is a nostalgic experience, sparking memories of school days and the distinct feel of chalk in hand. For others, especially younger guests, it’s a novel activity that brings a sense of fun and discovery. There’s something special about the tactile nature of chalking—the soft dust, the rainbow of color options, and, of course, that occasionally spine-tingling chalk screech! Regardless of whether it’s a familiar or new experience, guests are drawn to the blackboard, eager to leave their mark.

The messages themselves are as varied as the guests who write them. Some people sketch whimsical drawings, others craft a heartfelt poem, while many choose to write a few lines of love and encouragement for the newlyweds. Each contribution adds to a colorful, sprawling mosaic of good wishes, making the blackboard a truly unique guest book. And at nearly the full height of the schoolhouse wall, it’s probably one of the largest “guest books” in the country!

The blackboard has become a cherished part of every celebration at Old Forest School, inviting guests of all ages to participate in a shared experience and leave a lasting message for the couple. We’re confident this beloved blackboard will continue to be a highlight for everyone who visits, capturing memories and spreading joy, one piece of chalk at a time.
