One Fine Day Wedding Fair in Melbourne

In early March 2018, some of the Old Forest School team had the pleasure of attending the vibrant One Fine Day Wedding Fair in Melbourne. This inspiring event, held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, offered two full days packed with wedding magic and creativity from some of Melbourne’s finest wedding vendors and suppliers. From florists and photographers to cake designers, fashion designers, jewelry makers, and more, it was a showcase of everything beautiful and unique in the world of weddings.

The fair was a feast for the senses, with stunning displays of design, innovative ideas, and a few unexpected trends. Wandering through the exhibits, we were captivated by the endless inspiration on display. Fashion shows, live music, and beautifully curated setups added to the excitement, and we returned with a head full of new ideas for the upcoming season.

Here are a few trends that especially caught our eye:

  • Luxe Rustic: This style continues to be popular, combining vintage wooden elements with accents of plastic, metal, and fresh greenery. It’s a sophisticated take on rustic charm, blending earthy textures with a modern twist.
  • Solid Colours: Patterns took a back seat as solid, bold colours made a statement across décor, signage, and even florals. This trend brought a fresh, clean look, allowing the textures and materials themselves to shine.
  • Personalized Plastic Signs: These were everywhere, featuring custom names, quotes, or messages from the couple. They add a fun, personal touch to the décor and work perfectly as photo props or entrance signs.
  • Bright Florals: Bold, statement flowers in vivid colours were a major highlight, adding vibrancy to each setup. This style pairs wonderfully with the rustic luxe trend, creating a lively, cheerful atmosphere.
  • Dietary-Friendly Cakes and Food: We noticed an emphasis on cakes and foods catering to dietary needs, with gluten-free and sugar-free options becoming more common. These options make it easier to accommodate guests’ preferences without sacrificing style or taste.
  • Retro Details: Select retro touches, like swizzle sticks in cocktails, added a dash of nostalgia that felt both fun and sophisticated.

The fair was a fantastic experience, and it’s always inspiring to see how wedding trends evolve and take shape in different parts of the world. We came away from One Fine Day brimming with fresh ideas and excitement, ready to bring these creative touches back to Old Forest School for another unforgettable wedding season.
